Adventures for you around Naturns

Hiking in the valley and the mountains

Leisurely or challenging? In the Texel Group Nature Park, South Tyrol’s largest nature park, you are sure to find the perfect way for you through the fascinating mountain landscape. The Sonnenberg panoramic trail leads directly past our farm. The Unterstell cable car runs to the Merano High Altitude Trail at 1,300 metres. Up there you can start your alpine hike or summit tour, marvel at the magnificent panoramic view and treat yourself to a delicious meal in one of the alpine chalets or mountain inns.

Cycling and mountain biking

It’s just a few turns of the wheels from here to the Vinschgau Valley cycle path. This gently undulating path leads from the Reschen Pass to Merano and is perfect for leisure cyclists and families. Would you prefer to conquer the mountains by mountain bike? Around Naturns there is a multitude of winding and challenging trails to tempt you. If you are not able to bring your bike with you on holiday, you can find a suitable model in the nearby Ötzi Bike Shop & Rental.

Fun for young and old

It is just a short walk to the Texel Group Nature Park visitor centre. There you can playfully discover the complex interactions in nature. In Naturns Adventure Park you can test your mettle with a variety of games. Are you sports fans? In the village of Naturns there are a skateboarding park, a football pitch, an adventure swimming pool, a tennis court and a mini golf course. And in winter you shouldn’t miss the ice rink.

Unique cultural monument

Not far from us, nestling in the orchards, you can catch a glimpse of the unassuming little church of St. Prokulus. There you can discover the unique 8th century frescoes, the earliest pre-Romanesque wall paintings in the Alpine region. The angels and the saints, the famous man on the swing and a herd of cattle caused a sensation when they were uncovered in 1923. The underground Prokulus Museum guides you through four exhibit rooms bringing you from the Late Antiquity to the 17th century.

Events

The Spring Festival in spring. A summer of humour with Naturns Laughs, and a Night of Lights in summer too. The Törggelen (New Wine) Festival in autumn and the year-round weekly market on a Saturday, where you can purchase typical farmers’ produce. There’s something going on all year long in Naturns!

Adventures around Merano and in the Vinschgau Valley

Skiing and Christmas magic

Snow covers the mountain summits. The perfect time to hit the slopes! The surrounding ski resorts of Schnals/Val Senales, Merano 2000 and Schwemmalm offer skiers and snowboarders great descents in fabulous scenery. Your dreams of Christmas can be satisfied at the enchanting Merano Christmas Market. You can experience South Tyrolean Christmas traditions there with all of your senses and reawaken childhood memories.

City stroll and garden atmosphere

In just twenty minutes you can reach the spa town of Merano. Wander along the promenade, shop in the historic arcades and treat yourself to an aperitif – the town has its own very special charm. A stone’s throw away are the wonderful Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Eighty garden landscapes and plants from all over the world will delight not just flower lovers, but everyone.

In the museum

Peter Mitterhofer, the inventor of the typewriter, came from the neighbouring village of Partschins. You can find the Partschins Museum of the Typewriter there, with the world’s largest collection of typewriters. Railway World in Rabland, with the largest digital model railway in Italy, will make everyone’s eyes sparkle with excitement.

In Ötzi’s footsteps

Young and old alike can enjoy exploring the habitat of Ötzi the ice man in the archeoParc Schnalstal open air museum. You will discover where and how “the man from the ice” lived in the mountains 5,300 years ago during the Stone Age and which series of coincidences led to his discovery on the Tisenjoch Pass. You can also get hands-on and try out what life was like in the Stone Age.

Climbing and scrambling

Fancy a climbing tour? In the Ötzi Rope Park high ropes course, there are courses ranging from easy to hard, plus zip lines and a giant swing over the gorge. At the entrance to the Schnalstal Valley, opposite the Messner Mountain Museum – Juval Castle, is the mighty Hoachwool via ferrata. You will need lots of stamina here but will be rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view.

Action on the wild water

Excitement, fun and adrenaline kicks on the water? With the certified guides from Acquaterra Outdoor Activities from Tschars you can take a raft trip on the rapids of the rivers Etsch or Passer or negotiate wild gorges whilst canyoning. Pure adventure, for the truly daring!
