A strong team with a heart

“Farming isn’t just a job, it’s a calling.” – Johann Müller

Agriculture has been part of our family's lives for generations. From a very young age, Christian was inspired by this passion too. In keeping with his motto, “Nothing comes from nothing”, he is continuing to develop his family’s farm, the Rautnerhof, in authentic fashion. First and foremost, Christian takes care of the orchards and vineyards around our farm. Nadia makes sure that her family and the guests are happy. She enjoys spending her time in the garden, immersing herself in the pages of her many books or baking sweet treats that delight all the sweet tooths in the family. Her affectionate manner towards people and animals, her drive and her perfectionism are a successful counter to Christian’s easy-going, balanced and sociable character.

Together we make a good team with a strong sense of togetherness that successfully tackles the tasks we are faced with and pursues its aims together. In June 2024 we became parents to the little Tobias, making our domestic bliss complete!

A very warm welcome to the Rautnerhof!

The history of our farm

The origins of the Rautnerhof

The Rautnerhof was first mentioned in the records in the 15th century under the name “Hof auf Thum”. The farm has been owned by our family since 1935. Josef and Maria Theresia Prader, Christian’s grandparents, came from the Burggrafenamt region. Whilst searching for a new home, they discovered the “Thumhof” in Naturns. In order to maintain a link with his home farm in Tscherms, in 1956 Grandpa Josef decided to change the Thumhof’s name to “Rautnerhof”. Next they rebuilt the barn and in 1961 this was followed by the renovation of the farmhouse.

The first visitors arrive!

One year later, Christian's grandparents began letting rooms and welcomed their first guests to the farm. Not only did Grandpa Josef farm the orchards and vineyards, but also cared for the many animals in the barn. At the beginning of the 1970s, after careful deliberation, the decision was taken to stop raising cattle at the Rautnerhof and to concentrate on growing apples. Christian’s father, Josef Prader, took over the farm with his wife and his mother, Johanna in 1984. They continued to work on the farm and take care of its guests with dedication.

We build new holiday apartments

In 2021 Christian took over the farm, which he had already been running independently for many years. One year later, Christian and Nadia decided to renovate the farmhouse and build two new holiday apartments. With this, they fulfilled their dream of offering holidays on the farm. Over the centuries the Rautnerhof has continued to develop. Today it consists of approximately 5 hectares of orchards and half a hectare of grape vines. In addition, there are 1.5 hectares of meadow and forest, from which the wood that is used to heat the farm comes.
